Following the fatal shooting of three of its football players on Monday, the University of Virginia said on Wednesday it had canceled its football game scheduled for Saturday.
The game against Coastal Carolina was the last scheduled home game of the season. The university said it had not decided whether the team will play its final game of the season, a Nov. 26 matchup at Virginia Tech.
Three players — Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry — were killed in Monday’s shooting, and two others were wounded.
The gunman, who the police identified as Christopher Darnell Jones Jr., was a walk-on player on the team in 2018. On Monday, Timothy Longo, chief of police for the University of Virginia, said Mr. Jones would be charged with three counts of second-degree murder and three counts of using a handgun in the commission of a felony.
Mr. Jones was in court on Wednesday.
