At halftime of Sunday Night Football, the Los Angeles Chargers lead the San Francisco 49ers 16-10.
The Chargers were aided by numerous San Francisco mistakes in the first half, including a Brandon Aiyuk fumble and a block of a Mitch Wishnowsky punt. Each of those blunders led to a Los Angeles field goal, which accounted for the Chargers’ lead as they headed to the break.
Meanwhile, the L.A. defense surprisingly bottled up Christian McCaffrey (8 carries for 18 yards) and Elijah Mitchell (5 carries for 23 yards), and was instead burned by Jimmy Garoppolo’s improvisation (a 33-yard pass to Ray-Ray McCloud) and later a quarterback sneak. Justin Herbert was efficient in the passing game, completing 14 of 21 passes for 161 yards and a touchdown, with Austin Ekeler (6 catches for 37 yards) and DeAndre Carter (3 for 70 and a score) doing most of the damage. However, Herbert was removed from the game toward the end of the first half after getting hit in the head by Niners linebacker Dre Greenlaw, who was ejected from the contest.
Will the Chargers hang on and pull off the upset, or will the Niners stage a comeback? We’ll find out soon enough. In the meantime, keep it locked to our live blog throughout the rest of the evening as we update you with stats, scores, and highlights.
