  1. My iPhone counts my steps now, so I didn’t buy a Fitbit. I didn’t know about that reminder feature. That would make it worthwhile. It’s so easy to sit too long on the computer or in front of the TV.

  3. Thank you again for the health inspiration! Today I put on my stop watch on my phone and walked quickly around our mall beore having coffee and reading the newspaper! It took me 17 minutes and has inspired me to fit in other opportunities like this one!

  4. Perhaps I will look after a fitbit, I have a Pedometer right now. The idea doing exercises with friends is wonderful….but didn't worked for me. During the warm time I go swimming 2 times during the week (not counted the many times I jump in the sea at the campingsite), when it's colder I go Nordic Walking/Walking, 2 times a week. There were 2 of my friends who screamed: Yes, I am with you, let's go swimming, let's go Walking! Hahaha. Guess what… one went swimming with me 1 time, the other one went Walking with me to times. So I decided just to rely on myself. And that works very well!
    With my bestie it would work wonderful…but she lives 40 km away….

  5. I know this is sort of off-topic..but..I didn't know you could use steel wool to shine your stainless steel sink. Instead of continuing to be disappointed in our ordinary stainless kitchen sink, I used steel wool to buff it. WOW I can see a difference and so could DD17. The old hard water stains are gone now. My sink is truly shiny now 😀 Tea towel stash is organized too, 50 minutes of treadmill walking done, and cabinets are slowly going back up after being painted white. A great day, and our first snow with temps plummeting to -20 F windchill and high of 10 degrees F tomorrow. The timer is a blessing! Thank you for the cheering us on everyday.

  7. Diane I do my exercise first thing in the morning, because of the meds I have to take before I eat. I count it as part of my morning routeing. Does this count as dressed to shoes lol. I did start slow when I started 5000 steps the added more as I went. I do have a pedometer also.

  8. I love my fitbit. I have an alfa ? it does the same as yours. I would love to have a group going on here and do it together to get 10k steps per day in!!! Anybody in???

  9. Thank you.. I totally agree.. getting outside is a must.. now with that said, it's sunny & 0 F here today the wind-chill is to be -25 F………& suppose to drop during the day. Iowa has been hit hard this year.. SO I won't be walking outside. but I will be standing out with my pooch for a few min. we live on an acreage , so when I do get out I walk 5 times around the yard. probably 2 blocks or more is a round . the dogs go with me , part of the way 🙂

  10. Did the Fitbit thing… it was good to help me realize how much I really had to do in order to be getting adequate exercise. But I don't wear mine anymore. HOWEVER… thanks to your video this morning, I "called a friend" and we are going to join a fitness center and take a water exercise class together ( IN A HEATED POOL!) ! Accountability, friendship, exercise that we can manage with our extra weight…. and in spite of the cold weather! WE have called, we are going this afternoon to sign up/pay/tour facility. Our first class will be Thursday as we are already booked for Tuesday to do other things (necessary, no reschedule!) Go ME! THANKS for your pep talks! Now, late but still going to do my WHB… which will be minimal since I kept things up last week!

  11. Could you talk about getting going in the morning? It's hard for me to get up and start on my morning routine because my body hasn't woken up yet and still sore. I have my coffee and feel like I have to sit and wake up for a while. Do you actually wake up and start moving right away? I have little kids also that like to sit with Mommy and have their snuggles with their morning milk next to me, which is fine but I feel like it just goes on to long and I end up wasting too much time. Every day I want to be more productive in the morning and get it done because I don't want to be thinking about getting my morning routine done all morning either.

  12. I’m focusing on fluids this year. I got an app called WaterMinder and you can track all your fluids, not just water. It’s very customizable. So far I like it, but I’m shocked to see how little I drink. I had to reset the recommended goal to a more manageable level, hopefully I’ll be able to increase it over time.

  13. Good morning Diane. Love your videos. I'm one of those who do have a fairly large home with 11 rooms with five bedrooms, so the Flylady system has been a life saver for me. I'm getting into areas that I haven't touched in a year now using my timer. The timer really is key. I'm not feeling overwhelmed any more.

  14. While winter bathing, how long do you actually stay in the water in different weather conditions? I swim everyday year round too, at least an hour at day, but in an indoor pool at a health and wellness center. The pool is in a large greenhouse style building and is wonderful exercise. Do you do this for the exercise or simply for the effect of the cold water?

  16. Thanks again for the videos you make Dianne! It's so funny I am up late here in New Zealand, it is super hot here tonight and I can't sleep (a 'mombe') and this video was so funny how many coincidences there are with my life at this moment!
    I got a fitbit flex 2 last year and it is great to get me up and moving. The challenges are great and love that it also gives you it's own 'rah rah rahs' with the notifications. I have set myself the challenge of half an hour exercise per day so I walk 15 mins down the road and then turn around and come back and it's amazing how good I feel and how much further I can he after doing it regularly.

  18. So many young people I know have gotten the Fitbit and I thought it was just a new toy for the young Ones😉
    perhaps I'll try it …maybe I'll ask for it for an anniversary present. FYI just got my pom poms on errand day last week. Found pink ones. Gave myself a rah rah !! and my husband laughed. A little rah never hurt anyone.

  19. I wanted to suggest Yin Yoga (Yoga with Kassandra's channel is brilliant so I just do her routines). It's slow and static stretching rather than flowing yoga, and I have found it so beneficial. It's pampering and exercise in one, and it's fun to do with a candle at night (or early) and it helps me sleep. I feel so much more flexible! I guess it's hygge yoga 🙂

  20. Great ideas and inspiration Diane… Definitely – the timer trick is the key!!!
    I have had 20 minutes of daily "outside time" scheduled in my planner since January 2017…. did not achieve anything last year as I was always getting caught up with all the other "important" things… However, the days that were a success, only came about because I took that timer out with me, gave myself a minute to arm myself with spade and secateurs and another 15 to prune and weed to my heart's content! And you know the funniest thing was that I always went over time! Haha!

    So no excuses this year!! I have also added 3 walks/runs per week first thing in the morning – rain, hail or shine! Inspired by your gallant efforts fighting the elements on your sea swim….
    I know if I don't do it first thing, it just doesn't get done! Same with going to the gym… It's in the routine…. drop off the DD's at school and beeline it straight to the gym… no stopping anywhere!
    Actually, the most effective trick overall for me is…. not to think about it…. just do it! Once the brain starts to analyse, there's an inundation of excuses and doubts that follow….. and inevitably nothing happens….. There is that old Jedi mind thingy again 🙂

  21. I love my fitbit! It makes excersize so much more fun for me. Unfortunately only two of my friends own one and they don't compete… I have the same issue as you, during weekdays I move enough but in the weekends, not so much. When I sit still in church on Sunday the thing always vibrates, I picture myself running around the seats and think, maybe another time 😂
